The original theatre was probably constructed around the end of the 2nd century BC and was relatively small. It was later radically remodelled during the time of emperor Nero (50-75 AD) as well as in the beginning of 2nd century AD after the earthquake of 76 AD. It could accommodate an audience of approximately 3500 people.
