Büyüktepe Höyük, located 35 km from Bayburt city center, 5 km southwest of Demirözü and 1 km north of Çiftetaş Village. Büyüktepe Höyük was occupied during theLate Chalcolithic Age to the Bronze Age. The mound consists of two hills joined by a saddle-shaped neck and is located in the Beşpınar Valley, which is rich in water resources. The larger hill measures 180 x 25 meters and is 20 meters above the valley floor. Due to erosion, the cultural soil has been swept away and bedrock has emerged in places. Surface surveys and excavations have been carried out in the mound by Antonio Sagona since 1990. The settlement was used temporary by nomadic tribes in the Early Bronze Age.
The very first settlement in the mound began around 3500 BC and was inhabited until the Roman Period.
