Gaza [Azzah]- St. Porphyrius Church

data access 21469

The tomb of the 5th-century bishop of Gaza, Saint Porphyrius situated in the northeastern corner of the church which have been erected ca 425 AD. According to Marc Diacont there was a terrible drought in Gaza that ended  after Saint Porphyrios and a group of  Christians prayed to God with "fasting, vigil and procession." This led to the conversion of 25 pagans, as rain in this region was considered God's greatest gift.                                                                                 Sources:                                                                                                                                                              Ekklesiastiki Paremvasi, "Ο ΑΓΙΟΣ ΠΟΡΦΥΡΙΟΣ ΓΑΖΗΣ ΚΑΙ Ο ΚΟΣΜΟΣ ΤΗΣ ΥΣΤΕΡΗΣ ΑΡΧΑΙΟΤΗΤΑΣ", February 2005.
