Damasi Castle

data access 32356

One of the biggest Byzantine castles in Thessaly. It is not in good condition at all. Only a small part of its double walls is preserved today and a ruined tower.

The perimeter of the castle is 1300 m.The fortification was built probably in the 6th century AD over the walls of an ancient Acropolis. The location is ideal for the control of a major passage from Thessaly to southern Greece.
