Schanze B: Zwei Gräben und Wälle sowie eine Erdmauer mit Wehrgang schützten diese jüngere Schanze. Sie war für einen längeren Aufenthalt des Militärs eingerichtet. Die Besatzung war in einer U-förmigen Baracke mit Innenhof untergebracht. Die Anlage entstand im Zuge des Krieges gegen den germanischen Stamm der Chatten (83–85 n. Chr.) oder kurz danach. Der Limes war schon angelegt. Die Schanze sicherte den nahe gelegenen Limesdurchgang.1

Before today’s reconstructed Saalburg Fort was built in Roman times, there were smaller, fortified bases for soldiers on the site: Earthwork A – even older than the Limes; Earthwork B – built shortly after the borderline was laid out. They were stationed here to control a route over the Taunus pass. The remains of the earth- works are marked by walls and ditches.
