According to local legend Ślęża Mount was created as a result of a battle between angels and devils, sealing off the entrance to hell for the evil servants.

Numerous stone structures in the form of circles and monumental sculptures, depicting, among others, a bear and the so-called Maiden with a Fish, have been preserved within the mountain and its immediate vicinity. The mountain is also known as the Silesian Olympus.
