Hiritu was a city in southern Mesopotamia, known from the letters from the archives in Mari (18th century BC). It was situated on the eastern bank of the Irnina River, a tributary of the Euphrates, not far from the city of Sippar. After Hammurabii (1792-1750 BC) incorporated it into his state in 1764 BC. Later Hiritu was besieged by Elamites, but unsuccesfully. The combined forces of Hammurabi and Zimri-Lim of Mari stopped them.

This city iof Hiritu s probably identical with the  the city of Hiritu in the province of Sippar which is mentioned in sources from the 7th century BC.
